I’m off to Boston to keynote at the November Learning BLC10 Conference tomorrow. I’m pretty excited for a few reasons. Firstly, this will be my first Misfits themed talk!

The focus on my keynote will be on the impact technology is having on education and I’ll be highlighting some of the emerging gaps in educational system and how emerging collaborative models are changing the way people are learning. I’ve been doing a lot of research on the subject so far (more on that in another post) and I have to tell you it’s completely fascinating!

Secondly, I’m really excited to do some shopping. The shopping scene in Geneva is a little…limited. I can’t wait to go down there and do my part to help the economy.

About November Learning:

November Learning promotes effective use of information and communication technologies to support and enhance learning. The 2010 Building Learning Communities Conference is designed to have an immediate and long range impact on improving teaching and learning. What first started as a ‘jam session’ of ideas between friends and education colleagues has grown into something truly special.

I spoke with Alan November about some of the issues surrounding the challenges facing educators today as they navigate the wacky world of social media.

A few weeks ago I was in lovely Montevideo, as the keynote for the Marketers2010 conference. While I was there, I was invited to meet U.S. Ambassador David Nelson and members of his New Media and Communications team. We had a great chat, and he filled me in on some of the innovative ways they are building relationships with the Uruguay populace.

One of the ideas his team came up with, was a campaign to welcome ambassador Nelson to Uruguay by asking supporters and fans on facebook to submit pictures of themselves that were turned into a poster. Currently the Embassy as over 4,900 fans. Some of the fans who submitted photos got the chance to meet the Ambassador in person, and present him with framed poster personally. I thought it was a really great idea, and the Embassy received a positive response.

I was a little nervous at first, but everyone was so warm and welcoming that I was quickly put at ease. The Ambassador and his team even came out to see my talk later that day, which was such an honor for me.

Here are some pictures from our visit:
