A few weeks ago I was in lovely Montevideo, as the keynote for the Marketers2010 conference. While I was there, I was invited to meet U.S. Ambassador David Nelson and members of his New Media and Communications team. We had a great chat, and he filled me in on some of the innovative ways they are building relationships with the Uruguay populace.
One of the ideas his team came up with, was a campaign to welcome ambassador Nelson to Uruguay by asking supporters and fans on facebook to submit pictures of themselves that were turned into a poster. Currently the Embassy as over 4,900 fans. Some of the fans who submitted photos got the chance to meet the Ambassador in person, and present him with framed poster personally. I thought it was a really great idea, and the Embassy received a positive response.

I was a little nervous at first, but everyone was so warm and welcoming that I was quickly put at ease. The Ambassador and his team even came out to see my talk later that day, which was such an honor for me.
