I am inclined to be a little cynical as well. I see the Iranian administration is now using Obama's criticism as examples of the West interfering with a sovereign state. I'm sure these latest comments play well with the anti-West crowd in Iran and acts as a distraction to the violence being perpetrated by the state. Us-versus-them is an age-old political strategy and I'm wondering if social media's facilitation of protest communications can't be used as just another example of the West meddling in Iran. But I don't know if these social media companies, with an understandable promotional and commercial self-interest, really had any other choice.
